At the very beginning of August ’23 Zalando opened the new store in Frankfurt am Main, located on the bustling Zeil 119, presenting a striking and inviting storefront that effectively captures the attention of passersby.

The façade design, characterized by a bold and minimalist approach, was used by me to emphasize Zalando’s brand identity while simultaneously maintaining a clear view into the interior.

I created this cross section to provide insight into the floor plan and to show how different areas and departments are connected. It helped stakeholders in the design process understand the spatial organization of the store and how customers could move through the different shopping areas, and it set the stage for the overall wayfinding system in the store. Through this design element, I wanted to emphasize the importance of efficient circulation and clear wayfinding for a positive shopping experience. The over 15 meter high staircase wall enhances the overall flow and accessibility of the store, making it easier for customers to navigate between levels.

A clear and concise signage system I created is strategically placed throughout the store to provide information about different sections and levels.

For the main way finding placement, I chose the wall, which is a touchpoint in the main customer journey, leading one way to the escalator and the other way to the elevator.

This solution continues in the same location on each floor, making navigation easier and improving the overall customer experience.

As usual I refered to the landmarks by creating the icons for the department’s wallpapers. This pattern adds a touch of sophistication and elegance, while also highlighting the city’s rich history and architectural heritage. The contrast between the dark blue background and the white silhouettes creates a strong visual impact, drawing the eye to the wall and enhancing the overall ambiance of the store.

By incorporating this unique design feature, the Zalando Outlet Frankfurt am Main not only showcases its commitment to local culture but also provides a memorable shopping experience for its customers.

In designing the storefront, I chose a prominent logo-shaped graphic that draws attention to the store’s key selling points, such as discounts and product offerings. This dynamic element adds visual interest and reinforces the store’s value proposition. By keeping the store windows relatively open, I created space for additional marketing implementations, such as posters or window stickers.
